Cool Helmet Cam Video

Virgil, NY (07/9/06) – Round 6 of the Atlantic Grand Prix took place at the Logan Farm on July 9th at what would prove to be the the Best Cross Country course of the year. The course consisted of long grass tracks, open woods trails and exciting off camber turns, and best of all, the gate fees went directly to the Logan Farm, which is a Thoroughbred Horse Rehabilitation Farm that rescues sick thoroughbred’s that would normally be euthanized. With The sun shining bright and beautiful and the light winds keeping everyone cool, it was a perfect day to race. Riders traveled from all over to race alongside big names such as Chris Borich, Tyler Lenig, and Stephanie Verkade

Dale Freitas put together an excellent course for the youth riders creating a safe yet fun environment for our future Pro’s, Austin Findley out of New Providence, PA put in yet another great race by taking the win on his Kawasaki ATV. Brandi Harmon and Jack Graham placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In the Morning Race, Chris Borich once again entered to compete in the Utility Modified Class on his Honda Rincon to get some extra seat time on his utility ATV for the WPSA Quad terrain races. Chris Borich and Timothy McAndrew put on one of the most exciting races in AGP History as they battled for the lead into the final lap of the race with Borich making the pass for the lead in he final lap of race to claim the overall win with McAndrew finishing second overall and earning the Utility Unlimited class win for the fourth time this year.  Charles Godshall rounded out the podium with a third overall finish and the win in the 35+ Two and Four Stroke class. Stefanie Verkade claimed yet another win in the Women’s class with Quincy Heller and Melissa Snyder rounding out the top three.

The Afternoon race had Chris Borich back in action on his Honda 450r, and he wasted no time getting out front this weekend by grabbing the Holeshot and checking out on the rest of the class.  Borich was riding extremely fast, recording lap times that were nearly 40 seconds faster than even the previous day’s overall dirt bike winner Scottie Rich. Borich would easily go on to take the win with Tyler Lenig and Daniel Martinez rounding out the top three overall.

In other racing action, Richard Cecco made his AGP debut in the Veteran class on a Utility Honda Rincon, and he surprised everyone by finishing in second place behind David Bishop on his Honda 450R.

Round 7 scheduled for July 15 and 16 at North American Warhorse in Dunmore PA has been Canceled due to water damage from the storms at the end of June that dropped more than between 12” and 15" of rainfall on parts of Northeastern Pennsylvania and New York state. However The Race the North American Warhorse Scheduled for August 5th and 6th is still on!

Photos, Story and Results for Motorcycles Round 6

Kawasaki’s Scottie Rich takes his first overall at round 6 of the Atlantic Grand Prix Series.
The Logan Farm in Virgil, NY.

Virgil, NY (07/8/06)With low humidity and temperatures in the mid 80’s you couldn’t have had a better day for round 6 of the Atlantic Grand Prix Series. The Logan Farm race course consisted of seven sections, which were a combination of grass tracks, wide woods trails and mixed vegetation meadows. The parking area was on top of the hill with the entire race course running around all sides of the parking area. Spectating was nothing but phenomenal.

In the main event the hole shot went to Scottie Rich from Ithaca, NY who holds #1 plate in the WYNOA’s Hare Scrambles series, in the number 2 position it was AGP regular Glenn Scherer out of Washington, NJ and in the number three position Columbia, New Jersey’s ex-pro motocrosser Phillip Carlin. After about one lap things changed and Ross Benson quickly moved up into #2 position, but after 1.5 hours of battling the race was won by Scottie Rich, followed by Phillip Carlin and Glenn Scherer.

The Peewee race was run on a shortened version of the AGP cross country course and consisted of almost 2 miles of grass track and a short woods section. In that race it was Robert Civiletti Jr taken first, followed by Henry Ferreira in second and Ethan Jaudas in third.

In the youth minicycle race Suzuki’s Stephen Harris out of Hamburg, NJ came storming off the line with the determination that today was going to be his. Now in number two position we had Jacobus Ferreira also riding a Suzuki who was determined to put in a smooth and constant ride, but at the same time young Jacobus wasn’t going to give up the chance of nabbing another first in the AGP series. In third was was KTM fast guy Ian Pannebakker also with plans of taking a win. After 1 hour of some very intense racing it was Stephen Harris in first, Jacobus Ferreira, in second and Ian Pannebakker in third.

Round 6 was also the first AGP round to have Pit Bikes included in the racing action and what a race it was. Riding out of Feasterville PA was Raymond Mullen in the 50cc stock class who quickly dominated the 13 lap event, In second was Birdsboro’s PA’s Damien Roxrode and in Third Brewelton NY’s Jeff Lamphere. The start was controversial as the riders traded insults about one another equipment, but as soon as the checker flag dropped it was all racing.

For all those that made the trek up to the Logan Farm none were disappointed with what awaited them. Again most were surprised that the event was only a few hour drive from New York, Philadelphia and Boston metropolitan areas. Comments throughout the pits were extremely favorable about the quality of racing that the Atlantic Grand Prix Series was offering and that it was attracting a lot of attention from fast national caliber riders.

With 7 races left in the 2006 Atlantic Grand Prix series and attendance more than doubling at each event it’s apparent that the promoters are listing to the riders and putting on a Series for the riders. The next race is Round #8 on August 5th and 6th at that event will be at North American WarHorse in Dunmore PA

NOTE: The Atlantic Grand Prix Event July 15 & 16 at North American Warhorse is Canceled due to flood damage.

To all Atlantic Grand Prix participants regrettably the race scheduled for this weekend July 15 and 16 at North American Warhorse in Dunmore PA is going to be CANCELED DUE TO WATER DAMAGE from the storms at the end of June, that dropped between 12” and 14” or rainfall on parts of Northeastern Pennsylvania and New York state.

The conditions of the trails up on the mountain behind North American Warhorse are a mess. Both stream crossings are impassable requiring bridges. The trails are all washed out and will require a lot of work.

Now, while most clubs or association promoters might have gone a head and run the race we at Atlantic Grand Prix pride ourselves on putting on only the best races on the best courses anywhere in the Northeastern United States.

For that reason we’ve decided to cancel just this event and make the weekend of July 15 and 16 a WORK weekend so that we can put in all new course as well as construction of few new bridges. If you’re interest in helping, we’ll be parked in the area where we run the races right behind North American Warhorse both days.

If you’re interested in helping out come on up. Bring loppers, a bow saw or a Chain saw... bring your quad or bike and if you have construction skills...bridge building is going to be required...we’ll supply food and drinks.

Again thanks for your continued support in build the best little off-road series in the country.

P.S. The North American Warhorse race for August 5th and 6th is still On!
