Atlantic Grand Prix Rd #9 Logan Farm Cortland, NY
With overcast skies and rain the night before many thought the 2nd race at the Logan Farm would be a slop fest. Boy, were they wrong. Upon arrival at the track the skies opened up and the sun came through making the race start in the upper 70’s. Dale Freitas and crew did an excellent job of designing a course which combined tight technical woods, off camber turns, 2 creek crossings, and wide open field sections. Many of the racers left saying that this was by far the best course they had been on all year. The track was a little slick for the morning session, but as the day wore on and the sun dried things up it made the track nice and tacky.
Brandi Harmon took the overall in the youth class by only 40 seconds over Jack Graham and rounding out the top 3 was Roger Steve. As the season has progressed, several of the points races have tightened up in the morning session. Tim McAndrews and Chris Peipher are only separated by 10 points, in the Utility Unlimited Class. In the 29-34 C Class 4 riders are all within 13 points of one another with Robert Fitzpatrick holding the lead over Charles Delorenzo, Jay Genell, and Ron Dernoski. The morning would turn out to be fast which would allow some of the C Class riders to shine with James Eaton (22-28 C Class) taking the overall with James Wilson (35+ C Class) and Jason Baker (22-28 C Class) rounding out the mornings top three.
In the afternoon class Chris Borich continued his dominance of the afternoon overall and showed the type of competitor he is. A fellow rider, David Chapman, injured himself on the course and Chris, who was the first to arrive on the scene, took the time to help him back onto his quad and got him directed back to the pits. It shows what kind of a person Chris is when during the heat of a race he took the time to help someone instead of worrying about personal glory.
In the points chase some of the tighter races got even more interesting. The Pro-am chase is separated by only 14 points with Kenny Campbell holding the lead over Steven Stracka. In the 4 Stroke B class, Joel Coviello holds a 13 point lead over Brian Campbell. The afternoon overall would be Chris Borich followed by Eric Reeves and Mark Walters. With 2/3rds of the season all ready complete and the points races tightening up the final four rounds should present some of the best xc racing on the east coast.
