Oct 21 2007 Sahara Sands Grand Prix, Eagleswood, NJ

Sahara Sands Grand Prix bigger and better than ever with what might have been the best cross country course ever built at this location.

WOW...this years Sahara Sands Grand Prix was one for the record books. After two weeks of behind the scene course preparation and course building the AGP team of track builders put together what is without a doubt the best course ever at this location as well as in all of New Jersey.

As with all AGP events, this event was a fund raiser for a local non-profit and in this case it was done for the Eagleswood Fire Company and Great Bay Rescue squad...100% of the gate proceeds went to support these two fine organizations that protect the local community.

This year the Sahara Sands Grand Prix raised close to $10,000 and this couldn't have been accomplished without the support from the Silvi Group who graciously donated their property for this years one day event.

Again a big thanks goes out to everyone at the Silvi Group for making it all possible,

This years course was all new and consisted of four sections and those were as follows... a 1+ miles grass track section, a 2+ miles natural terrain motocross section, another 1+ miles of grass track and a 2+ miles of fast, fun technical woods trails with plenty of room for passing.

Weather wise you couldn't have had a better weekend. Friday we received close to three inches of rain, which kept dust in check all day, but come Sunday morning the temps were in the high 70s with sunny sky's.

The youth Mini Cycle race was won by Vineland NJ native David Worden who powered is Kawasaki KX 100 Big Wheel to a well earned win over Vincentown's Steve Hodgson who was riding a RM 85 out of Bromley Cycle Center.

The Youth ATV race was another epic race and Quarryville PA's Austin Findley did what he does best on his Hendricks Racing TRX90 and that is keep the little thing thumping around the course with his smooth style. Running in second was Nichols Major followed by a hard charging Ashley Bell on a Typhoon TY90. After one hour it was Austin at the check flag wit 6 laps in 54 minutes.

The motorcycle race had some big name talent with Nate Kanney, Wally Palmer, Jim Kapiton and Shawn Jackson all in attendance. The start was all Wally's for the first three laps, but stalking in second was WEC rider Nate Kanney who took over the lead on his new KTM and held it until the last lap he bent his chain guide taking him out of the race. At that point Wally took the lead back and held it to the checker flag. In second was motocrossers Jim Kapiton followed Jim Henshaw.

The afternoon ATV race was what a lot of people were waiting for. GNCC rider Chris Borich was present as well as Steven Stracka and Thomas Wright. After 6 hard fought laps it was Chris Borich at the finish with Steven Stracka only a minute off his pace. Third went to West Creek NJ's Corey Karch.

Now to all the riders...Thanks for coming out and supporting the Atlantic Grand Prix Series. Last year we raised over $45,000 for non-profits like fire companies, youth sports programs and even a horse rehabilitation farm for race horses.
